Onkyo ES-FC300 and ES-HF300 On Ear Headphones

Can You Just Listen On Style Alone?

Fig 1. The Cans Look Absolutely Beautiful

Onkyo, the Home Cinema hard hitters are now trying to take on the already flooded market of headphones. Now this isn't there first attempt but to pitch them in the ' Beats By Dre ' and the ' House of Marley ' market is a brave thing to do. They come in 2 models and 3 colours, Purple, Black and White, rumours around the Canned fire is that they are bassy, which to most people these days is a good thing and you wont hear me complaining about that. Now if you like them then get your wallet out for the price of £150 for the ES FC300 or £180 for the ES HF300

Fig 2. A leatherette Feel Cup Keeps Your Ears all Warm and Horrible Outside Sound Out

The Earcups fold in and deliver uncommonly clear, open, and natural sound from compressed or lossless formats (AAC,MP3 and so on) so suitable for the Smartphone generation then. There is an adjustable padded headband to take the stress off of your head, so if you like long time listening there should be no problems there.

Fig 3. The 3.5mm Headphone Lead can be Removed and Replaced if and When

A 40mm Titanium Driver can sound smooth when needed and lends itself to Hip Hop and Rock in my eyes but i'm sure even Michael Buble will sound nice through these. The cable from the headphones can be stored away and replaced when and if needed. You can go for the £180 HF300, which are identical except for the kind of cable that comes with them. The cheaper ones come with a flattened cable but the HF300's 'audiophile-grade' cable will make a huge difference to the type of sound quality you enjoy. So horses for courses then. It will be interesting to hear the difference.

There isn't a inline remote or a in-call function so that's a little bit of a downer when it comes to communication on the go, but do you really want to shout down at the headphones on a busy train or bus anyway?. Take a look at Onkyo's site and you'll find they are doing an in ear phone as well. So stay tuned and if you pick up a pair then good on you. So two models on offer here the ES HF300 coming in at £180 and the ES FC300 at £150, why not pop in to your local store and give them a test run.
