Jaws Blu Ray Steelbook

'Here's to swimming with bow-legged women.'

Fig 1. Get Your Teeth Into This Nice Looking Front

Steven Spielberg's 1975 smash is not just a brilliant looking horror movie, it's also probably the closest to a big screen blockbuster that you'll ever find. All the elements are here for a perfectly balanced film, be it suspense, horror, staying power, (for the length of it )just plain old character evolution or old school storytelling. It's nothing short of brilliant and a milestone in our beloved cinema history. The steelbook itself isn't the best out there and some thought could have gone into the back artwork of which there is none. It does have good inside artwork which in my opinion would have been much better on the back (Have a look at the pictures below to see what I mean) and for those interested there is also a Digibook available aswell as the normal amaray, its has a matte like finish but in some light conditions does look glossy. If you haven't picked it up for the film alone then shame on you and if you feel like a treat pick up the steel. .. now 'Stop playin with yourself, Hooper' and look at the specs below.

Fig 2. The inside Artwork, Very nice indeed

VIDEO*****
Presented in 2.35:1 Aspect ratio at 1080p
Well what can you say about Universal's restoration team on this transfer? What has been said is that they do seem to "Over Do Things" when it comes to movie restoration, things like loss of fine detail and film grain, well you can open your eyes for this one as its all there in its beauty. Jaws the Blu ray transfer has been overseen and signed off by the man himself. The 1080p encode is beautiful colour timing is impeccable along with contrast levels which are amazingly improved from previous releases. A straight 5 out of 5 here, you will never have seen a fake finned fish look so god damned good.

... Phew Deep Breath.
You all know what I'm going to start with and it's that infamous music score from the man himself John Williams, The movies near entire soundstage was built on that score and never has it sounded so different but so familiar. When I found out it was going to be remastered I was so hoping that it was going to be in 7.1 but most importantly I wanted it to be at its absolute best and it is. There is nothing show offy here, instead its subtle when it has to be and hard hitting when you know it should be. To my ears its easily the best the film has ever sounded. And if you want to stay true to the original hey its there for you to as the 2.0 soundtrack is there as well. So that's a straight 5 out of 5 for this also, Dur Dum, Dur Dum.
