Fig 1. The Most Fun You'll Have Being Scared
Stephen King and director George Romero muscle up a wicked concoction of scary delights in this 1980's horror. This series was out to watch years before tales from the crypt so lets not start comparing them shall we?. A young boy loves his comic books and try's to read them in secret but his dad finds out and tells him off, but the boys not that bothered he just reads them behind his fathers back. Five creepy story's come to life in brilliant form with the opening one aptly called 'Fathers Day' the tale of a family run by the father seeking revenge on the daughter who killed him. 'The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill' is the second outing, a man (King himself ) is taken over slowly by a meteor from outer space with a plant like effect inside that makes everything ooze..(Weedly Good ha, ha, ha) The third my favourite one of the bunch is about a couple who have been cheating and the husband wants revenge in the brilliantly named 'Something to Tide You Over'. Then along comes 'The Crate' on par with the one before it, a Crate in a university has a horrid little secret that one man can't keep to himself. And finally 'They're Creeping Up on You' a rather bizarre one this but will have you scratching all night long, a man has a little bit of OCD and what happens will leave you all bugged out. And with a guest appearance from Leslie Nielson and other's it's a fangtastic collection of movie short's, (and with special effects by Tom Savini) I'm so glad I imported this from the U S of A as its one of my most memorable horrors from the high that was the 80's import it at your peril.

For something that's 27 years old and for some new comers who have never heard of it, it's not to much of a surprise that this didn't get the treatment that I thought it deserved. Clarity is good, detail is pretty fair and contrast is really touched up but I do wish they could have adjusted the brightness just a tad, colours are spot on Flesh looks well flesh colour and same goes for all the gore. I just wish I had kept my old DVD release from years ago so I could have made a side by side comparison. There is a bit of print trouble but hey it's an old film stock. That being said not quite a 4 star but certainly no lower than a 3 and 3 quarters.. Gruesome.
Fig 3. Come on in and Enjoy the Show

DOLBT TRUE HD 2.0 English
Why, Why, Why did they not mix this in 5.1 i'll never know. With all the onscreen action and effects it was crying out for it, but try not to let that put you off. The 2.0 True HD soundtrack is nicely done. All the sound stays the same level and voices are ok it does let you relax a little more I guess as there isn't the rear effect to scare you or make you jump. Screams and howls are just that Screams and Howls.. But you can't have it all can you?. Just keep saying to yourself it's 27 years old and you'll get along with it just fine, still worth a pick up. 3 out of 5 stars for me I'm afraid.
EXTRAS
THEATRICAL TRAILER.
Yep that's it that's all you get... NO stars says it all. It might seem a little harsh but we could have got a interview or some kind of commentary from Mr Romero. Shabby is what it is Shabby.
